Exciting Upgrades and the Return of Boothbay Events

Published: February 24, 2022

The inn has been closed but we have been hard at work all winter. We have made changes to the roof, landscaping, and entrance ways and we cannot wait to share all of these improvements with our guests. We delight in the makeover every time we pull into the driveway and we look forward to welcoming guests to their home away from home. The 2022 season starts on Thursday, May 19 and our reservation system is up and ready for you to plan a getaway. After a COVID hiatus, many Boothbay events are in full planning mode. Read more about the inn and upcoming events below. Join us in 2022 to be part of our new start and the new season.

The entire roof at Five Gables has been replaced. As anyone who has had this sort of work done knows, it is a big project. It was loud and sometimes messy but the finished product is absolutely pristine. We did this now to keep ahead of any potential maintenance issues and we look forward to years of a worry-free roof.

Five Gables Inn is blessed with amazing views but our landscaping was starting to get in the way. We created a plan a couple of years back and have been steadily highlighting our coastal location. We worked with a team of experts who recommended removing the overgrown pine trees to open up the view and help with parking. The pines have been replaced with arborvitaes and the makeover is simply magical. We also added some new color to the grounds with several species of lilacs, Rhododendrons, Hydrangeas, Weigelias, Hostas, and flowering weeping trees. It is almost like the inn got a brand-new wardrobe.

Our previous guests know that our large wraparound porch and guest porches are a popular spot for people to relax with a cup of coffee or glass of wine. Our multi-year project to replace all of the decking and furniture is finally complete. The decking on the lower walkway and at the entranceways is all new this season. The combination of a new deck and enhanced landscaping will certainly increase the draw of our outdoor space. Kick off your shoes and watch the boats on Linekin Bay.

We still have a few more months before the season starts and we have a few more projects in mind. Experts are predicting a busy travel season this year and Boothbay is getting ready with a calendar full of events:

The Claw Down – June 16

Foodies from across the country are hankering to try the winning lobster dishes created in this chef’s competition. The popular event is returning this year with 2,000 lobsters to satisfy every lobster-lovers dream.

Fishin’ For Fashion – June 18

Fish netting, sailcloth, charts, ropes, and life jackets can all be seen on the cat walk of this unique event. The organizers are excited to be back after COVID. Do not miss the charming, exclusive, and often breathtaking fashion created with fishing industry materials. Both Fishin’ For Fashion and The Claw Down will be held at The Shipyard in Boothbay Harbor.

Windjammer Days – June 26 – July 1

The area’s summer kickoff is celebrating its 60th year in 2022. It is a way for family, friends, and visitors to reconnect after the long winter by celebrating the maritime history of the harbor. The week is full of activities for all ages. The harbor glimmers with lighted boats during Harbor Aglow and again for a dazzling fireworks display. Everyone laughs during the hysterical cod fish races. The fleet gathers and pirates “invade.” No celebration is complete without a parade and this event boasts two – one on land and one on the water.

The Opera House at Boothbay Harbor – Over 100 events and performances each year

The summer calendar at the opera house is filled with concerts. There is certain to be something for everyone including solo guitarists, singer-songwriters ready to jam and tell stories without a set playlist, talented pianists, western swing music, and the boisterous sounds of a New Orleans band. Ticket sales for some events are already open so make your plans soon.

Damariscotta Oyster Fest – Currently being planned

The Damariscotta River is known across the world as a place the produces a diverse flavor oyster crop. The three-day festival is kicked off with the International Oyster Chef of the Year Competition. The celebration continued with tours, tastings, and a timed shucking contest. Dates are not set for the festival yet but planning is in full swing.

Salt Bay Chamberfest – August 8-20

The 28th season is titled “Illuminations.” Every program will be accompanied by video projections to stimulate the eyes and the ears for full experience. The festival will feature marimba, clarinet, violin, and piano music.

Fall Foliage Festival – October 8 – 9

Set in the railwayvillage.org, the family-friendly weekend boasts an antique car museum, model railroad, live music, and artist exhibits. It has long been a favorite for those who want to get a start on holiday shopping.

Damariscotta Pumpkinfest and Regatta – October 8-10

Pumpkin boat races, gigantic decorated pumpkins, and lots of silly fun. Check back for more information about this fall favorite.
